On October 15, 2025, the Fire University hosted a delegation from the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia, headed by the Deputy Chief of the Service, Mr. Rūdolfs Āzens. On behalf of the University, the delegation was welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Education and Student Affairs, COL Tomasz Zwęgliński, DSc Fire Eng., prof. Fire University, together with a team of experts.
The Latvian side expressed particular interest in the solutions implemented in Poland in the field of public procurement and the firefighter education system. The aim of the meeting at the Fire University was to become familiar with Polish experiences and best practices in these areas, as well as to exchange knowledge on research and development processes, laboratory activities, academic teaching, and the integration of theory with practice in the training of rescue services.
Another item on the agenda was a visit to the Field Training and Rescue Innovation Base of the Fire University in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. The delegation had the opportunity to explore the practical aspects of training cadet firefighters. The dynamic development of the Base also provided an excellent opportunity to continue discussions on best practices in public procurement processes implemented at the University.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of partnership and knowledge exchange, further strengthening the relationship between the fire services of Poland and Latvia.
The visit was organized as part of the Exchange of Experts program, funded by the European Commission. This program enables civil protection experts to share experiences, gain valuable knowledge, and strengthen operational capabilities through an exchange system among the countries participating in the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
