From 29 June to 3 July 2026, Fire University cadets Jakub Dudzik and Karol Imiołek participated in a student mobility programme under Erasmus+, carried out at the Service Départemental d’Incendie et de Secours de Seine-et-Marne (SDIS 77) in France.
During the visit, the cadets had a unique opportunity to exchange experiences with French firefighters (sapeurs-pompiers), compare the equipment used by both services and learn about differences in firefighting and rescue tactics.
Throughout five intensive days, the cadets observed the work of the SDIS 77 headquarters. They became familiar with the specifics of French firefighting operations, the organisation of the rescue system within the department and the principles of cooperation between different services.
As part of the mobility, the cadets:
- took part in emergency responses as observers, gaining the opportunity to see French firefighters in action during real incidents. They observed, among others, operations involving the securing and extinguishing of large agricultural fires;
- learned about command procedures by observing work at command centres and becoming familiar with the use of mobile command boards (SITAC) and mapping systems used to coordinate large-scale operations;
- observed technical rescue training exercises, which allowed them to compare French vehicle rescue methods with procedures used in Poland;
- visited local fire stations, including the 53 BCR Intervention Centre, where they integrated with local firefighters and exchanged experiences regarding the daily functioning of operational units.
The Erasmus+ mobility allowed the cadets to gain a broader perspective not only on rescue operations themselves, but also on organisation, command structures and international cooperation in emergency response.
