Between 8–13 September 2025, cadet officers of the Fire University:

  • Milena Mrugalska,
  • Mateusz Zazgórnik,
  • Szymon Bleks,

took part in a student mobility program under Erasmus+, hosted by the partner institution Feuerwehrakademie Hamburg. The purpose of the visit was to enhance professional skills, exchange experiences and complete practical training in fire and rescue units in Hamburg.

During their stay, the participants became acquainted with the organization and daily operations of the Hamburg Fire Department, including specialized units, the emergency communication center and water rescue units. They also learned about the structure of the fire academy, it’s training facilities, drill grounds and variety of simulators. The hosts presented a collection of firefighting equipment and uniforms displayed in the Museum of Fire Service, enriching the exhibition with engaging stories and commentary from a local history enthusiast.

A key highlight of the visit was the opportunity to spend 24 hours on duty in a fire and rescue unit. Although the cadet officers acted as observers, they took part in the daily routine of service – from emergency responses to preparing meals together to practical training sessions. This allowed them to gain an in-depth understanding of the German rescue system and compare it with Polish solutions. Additional attractions included a ride in a hydraulic platform reaching 70 meters in height, a trip on a firefighting boat on the Elbe River and an introduction to an electrically powered fire engine.

The program also offered opportunities to explore Hamburg and it’s culture. Situated on the Elbe, the city is a culturally diverse metropolis with a rich heritage much of which is connected to its port infrastructure. The students were able to discover the city’s history and traditions from a broader perspective than purely professional.

Participation in Erasmus+ mobility is an invaluable initiative in terms of both professional and personal development. It provides inspiration for further work, broadens horizons and strengthens competences. The exchange of knowledge and experience benefits both sides – the visiting participants and the host institutions alike. The program enabled the cadet officers to gain a deeper understanding not only of rescue operations themselves but also of their organization and command structures. The knowledge and experience acquired represent a lasting value for their further education and future service.
