Colonel Adam Krasuski, D.Sc. Fire Eng., prof. Fire University and First Lieutenant Wojciech Kowalski, M.Sc. Eng. from the Institute of Safety Engineering participated in an academic staff mobility Erasmus+ program/Academic Staff Mobility for Teaching and Training at the partner institution TUM – Technische Universität München (Germany).

The purpose of the visit was to enhance teaching skills and establish scientific and research collaboration in the field of fire risk analysis with the Department of Fire Protection at TUM and the leadership of the Munich Fire Department.

The Fire University’s researchers visited the TUM campus, where they were given a tour by a representative of the host institution. Prof. Krasuski conducted a master's seminar titled "Fire Risk and Evacuation Analysis". He presented the origins of fire risk analysis methods and discussed many practical aspects of using engineering tools in fire protection. Mr. Kowalski delivered a lecture titled "Computer Models in Structural Fire Engineering" for master’s students in the Civil and Environmental Engineering program. A discussion panel was also held on fire risk analysis methods and the potential use of fire department statistics.

The scientists participated in a training and discussion panel led by the director of the R&D department of the Munich Fire Department. He presented the challenges faced by the Munich fire services and discussed the use of data on fire spread in buildings collected by specialized fire prevention teams. The host also showcased a historical fire station and current organizational solutions. Later, the newest fire station in Munich was presented with the city’s Emergency Notification Center and Bavaria’s crisis management facilities.

The Fire University officers had also the opportunity to visit FeuerTrutz, the largest fire protection trade fair in Europe, held in Nuremberg, and to tour the fire laboratories of TUM in Munich and Dachau. These laboratories specialize in the classification testing of construction products. In particular, the Dachau laboratory has the longest tradition in Europe in the field of fire ventilation testing.

The visit enabled the researchers to establish direct cooperation with staff from the host institution. It was an opportunity to exchange experiences and broaden scientific, linguistic, and organizational horizons.
