From 13 to 17 April 2026, as part of the Erasmus+ programme, the Fire University hosted Prof. Sabina Nedkova from Burgas State University “Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov” in Bulgaria.

During her stay, Professor Nedkova delivered a lecture to students participating in the Erasmus+ programme at the Fire University, representing the Academy of the Ministry of Interior (Bulgaria), VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), and the National University of Civil Protection of Ukraine. During the classes, she shared her academic and teaching experience, introducing key issues related to the course “Technical Safety and Civil Protection.”

Professor Nedkova also presented the activities of Burgas State University, its organizational structure, and its educational offer. Another lecture focused on the “Human Reliability Model of Disaster Managers,” attended also by students of the Fire University.

The visit programme included a series of meetings and presentations concerning the functioning of the Fire University. Due to her academic interests, Professor Nedkova paid particular attention to the Chemical Rescue Laboratory and the scope of student education in this field, presented by 1LT Sebastian Staszko.

As Burgas State University also offers medical programmes, Professor Nedkova had the opportunity to visit the emergency medical training laboratory and to discuss the development of the “Emergency Medical Services” programme at the Fire University with Col. Karina Jarosławska-Kolman.

The visit also provided an opportunity to tour the rescue equipment laboratory, presented by the Head of the Department, Maj. Agata Walczak who also serves as the Faculty Erasmus+ Coordinator.

During her visit, Professor Nedkova became familiar with the education system and study programmes at the Fire University, as well as with the new responsibilities of the institution resulting from the development of the civil protection system in Poland.

She also visited the Fire and Rescue Unit of the Fire University, where cadet students presented the specifics of the unit’s operations and their service, as well as demonstrated a mobile shelter.

The visit was an excellent opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience and marks the beginning of cooperation between the Fire University and Burgas State University. As part of its further development, a student mobility of the Safety Engineering programme to Bulgaria under the Erasmus+ programme has been planned.
